Since nature is my greatest source of inspiration, I like to spend as much time as I can outdoors. Whether it be out at the lake, or at home in my backyard, I love immersing myself in the sights and sounds of the natural world. This is why I love the summertime. The sun is shining, the weather is warm, and as long as there’s fuel for the grill, I can spend an entire day outside! Naturally, my dog is in full support of this outdoor lifestyle – especially when food is involved. Whenever I fire up the grill, she hovers nearby, hoping that I or one of my guests will offer her a scrap. (Lucky for her, she usually gets one!) So to celebrate summertime and the joys of outdoor living, this month’s poem is all about cookouts – from the perspective of a dog!
Cookout
By Katie Gilstrap
on the deck with my two-legged chums.
and I sure hope they leave me some crumbs!
to see some potatoes and Brie.
I sure hope they toss some to me!
and I sure hope they don’t go to waste…
then perhaps they will give me a taste!
